Social entrepreneurs are societal pioneers of disruptive innovation
Small business owners identify and take advantage of the opportunity before them by filling up gaps in the market place with goods and services which the customers expressly desire.
When a country is emerging, it needs less business men (who are just mean capitalists), but more of enterpreneurs solving social issues than just trying to make money off raping its citizens. See what Akon is doing with lighting over 1 million homes sustainably in Africa through renewable energy. That’s Disruptive Innovation at play.
Social and Disruptive Innovation will be providing services that knocks back water to our taps and light back to our road in more affordable means for the common man. In management, we define disruptive innovation in any industry as any innovation that creates a new market and value network and eventually disrupts an existing market and value network, displacing established market leading firms, products and alliances. Innovative innovation is powered by creative destruction.
Technically, it is an equilibrium of micro economics to macro economics using innovation to incessantly revolutionize an industry’s economic structure from within, incessantly destroying the old one, incessantly creating a new one by cheaper and more enjoyable products.
See what Uber is doing globally, that’s a new market opened (and now Nigerians are even using it as courier service). Nathaniel Bassey showed us last year how to take inaccessible vigil to our phones, that is Disruptive at zero cost on transport to CanaanLand and other forms of religious tourism. There’s a lesson, create a hybrid of industries and let them give birth to a new industry. How many of these brands are doing any Hybrid? What are these so called “billionaire business men” disrupting?
Dangote is not an entrepreneur as frequently tagged but a business owner; if he were for instance, there’s much more to build in Free Trade Zone than a refinery in a world that is fast trying to lay off vehicles and technologies that uses hydrocarbon and fossil fuel. Entrepreneurs recreate imaginative ideas in reality for the common good.
Currently we need entrepreneurs; more so we need more social entrepreneurs pioneering Disruptive Innovation and creating a better society for the collective good.
